Mac DeMarco

WED 9TH SEPT
Mac DeMarco

Like in the days of Steely Dan, Harry Nilsson or Prince releasing a classic every year (or sooner) comes Mac DeMarco’s Another One, a mini-LP announced almost one year to the date of the meteorically successful Salad Days. Conceived and recorded entirely by Mac himself in a short period between a relentless tour schedule at his new place in Far Rockaway, Queens, Another One is eight freshly written songs, expanding the arsenal of Mac’s already impressive catalogue.

There’s a bittersweet, romantic sensibility at work here. The overall feeling is of lost love, or perhaps love never found, yet Mac embraces this without making it an overly somber experience for the listener. It’s at times haunting and warm, and a bit more refined and sophisticated, but still plenty playful, retaining the guts and soul of classic Mac.

With two full-length albums and two EPs released and hundreds of sold out shows performed in the last several years, a recent late night television debut on Conan following a special guest performance on The Eric Andre Show, Mac will be returning to the UK this September for a pair of special nights at the Roundhouse as part of a headline tour.

Father John Misty’s album I Love You, Honeybear was released early this year, to much acclaim.

"Lush songs of love and madness" Rolling Stone Magazine

"It wows the listener outright, swerving confidently around genres and eras, piano balladry and perverse synths, throwing in grandiose string arrangements and enough lyrical grist to keep listeners milling well into 2015.” Kitty Empire, The Observer

"It’s hard to tell where Joshua Tillman ends and his alias Father John Misty begins – but perhaps it doesn’t matter when the songs sound this good" Alexis Petridis, the Guardian

Father John Misty on I Love You, Honeybear:

"There’s a case to be made that it sounds and acts a bit like Scott Walker, Randy Newman, Harry Nilsson, and Dory Previn. Blammo. The songs are a narration of my experience falling in love, which means different things to different people, but which I found incredibly inspiring, personally and creatively ...

This is a fairly experimental record, in that, I “experimented” with several different approaches for each song (which is part of why it took so long to record) even though the arrangements and styling are fairly classic. Taking a larger producer role this time around gave me license to indulge no small degree of ambivalence and uncertainty. This material demanded from me a new way of being made, and it took a lot of time before that revealed itself. I believe we found a way to make something that is meticulous but natural, dense but still sounds spacious."

Age suitability: U14s to be accompanied
